Fragrant rice and has all the basic needs of a good nasi lemak with its hot sambal. One of the star item here though is its fried chicken. Deep fried to perfection, its crispy bits are one of the yummiest parts. The meat itself is done really nicely, well marinated, tender and juicy.

We started off with a lovely soup made from vege leafs and handmade fish paste.

File_002 (1)

Looks simple and homecooked, they serve one of the best steamed egg with minced meat.  It has a fantastic texture being smooth with the meat giving it extra texture . Tastes just like homecooked and reminds me so much of my childhood days.

Fish & Tofu with really yummy sauce.

Steamed fish bee hoon is one of its famous dish here. It is a favourite of many people – both locals and tourist alike. The texture of the fish is smooth and its flesh is sweet. Although most people would order this, I would highly recommend two other dishes – crab porridge soup and the bittergourd with fried egg

WhatsApp Image 2017-07-22 at 1.32.35 PM

The egg looks runny but this is the fried egg with bittergourd. Flavoured with soy sauce, this simple homely dish is really good.

Crab porridge soup where the broth taste sweet thanks to the crab flesh. Underrated dish which not many mentions.

Best Char Kuey Teow – Ah Leng Char Kuey Teow (Penang)

Penang is undoubtedly the land of food.

One of many tourists and locals’ must have in Penang is definitely the infamous Char Kuey Teow, but where to find the best one?

I’d recommend you to try this Famous Ah Leng Char Koay Teow @ Restoran Tong Hooi.

PR1

PR2

Few of the main ingredients in a plate of char koay teow are the flat noodles, cockles, bean sprouts (tauge) and prawns. The prawns in this char koay teow are really fresh, and the wok hei is definitely up to standards.

Most other states will serve Char Kuey Teow with chicken egg. Duck egg char kuey teow is a Penang specialty and here at Ah Leng, you can have it with duck egg too! You can also order this with mantis prawn, if you feel up for it.

PR3

My recommendation would be to go for the special char kuey teow which includes duck egg and big prawns – with this, it’ll make your char kuey teow superb!

Location: Tong Hooi Coffeeshop, Jalan Dato Keramat, Georgetown, Penang.

Opening Hours: 9.30am – 3.30pm, Closed on Wednesdays

Best Prawn Mee – Bobo, Lip Sin (Penang)

PR6

One of the best prawn mee in Penang can be found in this local kopitiam called Bobo. This is one of those bowl of comfort food which I can keep going back and back again to eat the same thing.

There are so many ways you can have this noodle with the variety of ingredients they offer. Go for the special extra ingredients like pork ribs, pork intestine, extra prawn or extra egg. You can add as you wish.

My recommendation would be extra pork ribs, prawn and egg. Goes really well with the paste, egg and prawn. You can also mix it up and order it with the “Lou” sauce/soup. For me, the original soup is good enough.
